I am a high school chemistry teacher in Burnaby, British Columbia. Last year, I wanted to move away from "cookbook-style" chemistry labs and design activities that pushed my students to problem-solve and to think critically about the work they were doing in the lab.
In the fall semester, I managed to complete a full run through Chemistry 11 using inquiry labs. I was able to repeat and refine many activities with a new class in Semester 2. One year into this process, I am by no means an expert at teaching through inquiry... but I have learned a lot! Inquiry labs support my beliefs as an educator, and I think I'm starting to really "get" the mechanics of building guided inquiry opportunities.
For me, getting started was the hardest part. I've built this website to share labs and tips, so that others might be less hesitant to take that first step. Please feel free to use whatever you can! Modify it as you need. And please, if you have something that works for you, share in return.
