Measuring the Rate of Reaction: CaCO3 & HCl
Students observe a reaction and brainstorm ways to measure its rate.
Then, students measure and graph CO2 production over time.
Students determine both average/overall and instantaneous rates, and explain how rate changes over the course of a reaction.

Factors Affecting Reaction Rate: CuCl2 & Al
Since students are usually familiar with rate from Science 10, I let them play with a familiar CuCl2 / Al foil reaction.
What can you do to speed this up? To slow it down?
To keep us efficient in our use of time, we brainstorm the variables/changes to procedure as a class, then I provide a written procedure for groups to follow. This lab supports the C/E/R conclusion format.
